2024-12-28 - Casio PV-1000 I found a small stash of Casio PV-1000 and PV-2000 game cartridges on Mercari a bit ago. The PV-1000 is a game console, and the PV-2000 is a computer (at least, in the same sense that the SG-1000 was a console and the SC-3000 was a computer). The PV-2000s I see are usually in terrible shape and cost a ton of money, while the PV-1000s also tend to cost a ton of money but aren't necessarily in such rough shape. I found a PV-1000 that was in somewhat rough shape but not too bad, and it ended for a comparatively reasonable price, so I stuck the winning bid on that. 2024-12-01 - Tomy Pyuta mkII I picked up a Tomy Pyuta mkII on Mercari recently. This is a follow-up to the original Pyuta, similar to how the Commodore 64C followed the Commodore 64. Except while the Commodore 64C was a cost-saving implementation of the Commodore 64, this one looked like it provided a minor upgrade. From the outside, at a glance, it looks like they just swapped out the keyboard, offering a short-travel plastic keyboard, which was much more usable than the rubber chiclet keyboard that the original sported. continued ⇒ |

2024-11-19 - MZ Series Thingie The Sharp MZ series has a counterpart to the X1 Widget which is the MZ Thingie. Perhaps it's a paper weight, though it seems a bit too vertical for that. Perhaps just a decoration that could be used as a paper weight at your own risk? I'm pretty sure it's not a pen holder, as the X1 Widget turned out to be. continued ⇒ |

2024-11-09 - Towns OS 1.1 L10 There was a surprising amount of extra content on the FM Towns 1.1 L10 CD. I guess it shouldn't be that surprising, as they had space to burn (literally!), but it's a curious thing, computer manufacturers at the (1987-ish) rarely had 500MB+ of storage with nothing better to do than fill it up, so what would they come up with? 2024-10-31 - Applications for MZ-80K2E This is a collection of programs bundled with the MZ-80K2E that demonstrate various things that could be done with the system. Most systems of the day had such tapes, some better than others. This system is light on multimedia, so it doesn't pack too much of a punch, but it makes due with what it has. 2024-10-23 - Sharp MZ-1500 Sharp is heavily represented in my collection, and for a couple of good reasons. They are divided into two groups: computer division (MZ series and the oddball PC-3100) and home electronics division (X1 and X68000), which I don't think happened at any other manufacturer. 2024-10-21 - Hitachi MB-H50 The Hitachi MB-H50 has a distinct look to it. It has a slim appearance and discrete ports. It has LEDs that react to audio levels. 2024-10-02 - Sony CPS-14F1 The Sony CPS-14F1 has a beautiful picture and primarily connects by JP-21 or multiRGB, however you want to call it. It also had composite video input. This makes it a pretty flexible monitor, being able to accommodate computer systems like the FM77AV series and Sony's SMC-777 series, as well as all of the MSX2 and above systems, and a whole slew of game consoles. continued ⇒ |
