Sometimes it can be a little hard to decide what category to put something in. I got this FP-1100 as a whole set. Oh! Actually, I lied! The FP-1100 in the photo below is my original FP-1100, because it's in much better cosmetic condition than the FP-1100 I received in this lot. 続き⇒
Just before the end of the year, I grabbed this lot of boxed PC-6001 items. There was considerably more than this, but I wanted to focus on the matching boxed system and peripherals. The system box was in pretty decent shape, but NEC was wont to use cheap cardstock boxes for the peripherals, so the end result is they don't look amazing after 40 years. 続き⇒
2024年02月10日 - FP-1100の内部
I got this sort of hapless FP-1100 on Mercari. It came as a big set including monitor and manuals. The monitor was grimy but basically good condition and wiped up nicely. The computer itself, however, was a nasty mess and I did such a gosh-darned good job cleaning it up and I just NEVER think to take "before" pictures so I don't have any. Actually, I ALWAYS think to take before pictures and I ALWAYS think "nah, it won't be that interesting. But while this may not look perfect, believe me, it used to be much much worse. I did good by it. 続き⇒
As far as system software and demos go, NEC is pretty solid. The system disks for the PC-8801mkIISR are no exception. There are two disks - N88 BASIC and Demonstration. 続き⇒
I got the PC-3100S quite a while ago and it *mostly* worked, it powered up into BASIC and you could throw direct commands at it and have it fire back at you, but something was wonky about the way it was storing program lines. You can check for more details about that in the main PC-3100S system article. 続き⇒
2023年12月29日 - シャープ MZ-1200
The MZ-1200 is a continuation of the MZ-80K series, following the MZ-80K2E and preceding the MZ-700. A similar model was released in the western world as the MZ-80A. It has double the RAM (now 64KB) and a much more standard-looking keyboard. Interestingly, it's not necessarily a better keyboard. It still has the same problems that the MZ-80K2 has, no real number pad, and you have to type at a controlled pace or it will drop input. 続き⇒
For a year or two, I had the PC-6001mkII and didn't know that it supported 15 colors. I thought it was limited to 8, like most digital RGB-endowed PCs of the early 80s. One thing did seem kind of off... when I typed anything into the included word processing software, I couldn't see any characters. I guessed that it needed some sort of expansion to function properly. One game (game is used a bit loosely here) was very hard to see, but not impossible. I thought it was just poor color choice by the programmers. Maybe they work on monochrome monitors or something. 続き⇒
With my recent purchase of the National JR-100, I received the demonstration tape, which was sold bundled with the computer back when it was new. 続き⇒
Despite reading the description, I didn't really know what I was getting myself into with this purchase. It's a never-opened (until now) Joy Joy Pack #3 for the MZ-1500. It contains two QuickDisks with two main games, Drol and Shooting Wars. It also came with a board game, but the board game is based on Drol, and relies on loading side B of the Drol QuickDisk. The software on side B acts as the dice and also produces in-game messages. 続き⇒
This is the second Marty article in this blog. I already blogged at greater length in the other article, but this is the Marty I prefer. The color is that of the earlier dark gray FM Towns systems. And the lighter gray one has a more modern design sense to it, and also the origin of the more modern style controller. 続き⇒
