A while back, I found an incredibly good deal on a Sharp MZ-80B system and a host of extras. It included a dual floppy drive unit, as well as the corresponding expansion card so the computer could communicate with the drives, and a lot of floppy disks. What really struck me was how well taken care of this all was. Floppy disk collections this old in Japan almost always come bundled with at least some amount of mold, but the system, drives, and disks were all clean and working. continued ⇒
2025-08-20 - Pyuta Game Adapter
The Pyuta game adapter brought (well, more likely facilitated bringing) 3D capabilities to the Tomy Pyuta. It plugs in to the expansion slot on the back on the system, and provides a second cartridge slot for the 3D titles to plug into. The 3D cartridges are physically identical to the standard cartridges. continued ⇒
Finally, after about six years of collecting, I got a Hitachi Basic Master series computer. It has a massive footprint, designed to have the monitor placed on top of it. It came in its original box, and it was shipped to me in another box (which I am thankful for!), so in order to play with it, I had to prepare to have three Basic Master-sized items out at the same time, which is no easy task in my environment. But there's no denying, it's a gorgeous machine! continued ⇒
2025-07-21 - Boxed PC-8001
I recently picked up a complete-in-box PC-8001. It consisted of the computer, the instruction manuals, a compact BASIC reference pamphlet, monochrome video cable, CMT cable, system demo tape, and the manufacturer's warranty. It was all in great condition. continued ⇒
2025-06-29 - Joy Joy Pack
There were three software packages in the Joy Joy Pack series. For a brief period, I had all three. They're a neat-looking collection. continued ⇒
Despite reading the description, I didn't really know what I was getting myself into with this purchase. It's a never-opened (until now) Joy Joy Pack #3 for the MZ-1500. It contains two QuickDisks with two main games, Drol and Shooting Wars. It also came with a board game, but the board game is based on Drol, and relies on loading side B of the Drol QuickDisk. The software on side B acts as the dice and also produces in-game messages. continued ⇒
2025-06-15 - Joy Joy Pack 2
This is the second of three Joy Joy Packs. As its predecessor, it is a nicely presented, although cheaply packaged, collection of six QuickDisks containing utilities, study material, and a single QuickDisk with two games. Although it is cheaply packaged, the way in which it is cheaply packaged was changed quite a bit, and the end result was slightly better. continued ⇒
2025-04-16 - Sega SC-3000H
I've had a couple of different SC-3000s, with specs varying by color only (originally I had black, now I have red). I recently grabbed an SC-3000H because a) it is a different color (white) and b) it was quite a reasonable price compared to others I'd seen. continued ⇒
2025-04-15 - Tomy TV Fun 601
When I saw the Tomy TV Fun 601 on Mercari, I thought it was a pretty handsome machine, but after looking a bit more, I see the previous version of the TV Fun was actually much more sophisticated-looking with its wood grain case and silver knobs. But this is still pretty nice-looking! continued ⇒
I made an article about the Takara Game Pasokon a while back, but recently I came across the machine that the Game Pasokon is a clone of, the SORD m5. continued ⇒
