2025-04-15 - Tomy TV Fun 601 When I saw the Tomy TV Fun 601 on Mercari, I thought it was a pretty handsome machine, but after looking a bit more, I see the previous version of the TV Fun was actually much more sophisticated-looking with its wood grain case and silver knobs. But this is still pretty nice-looking! continued ⇒ |

2024-12-28 - Casio PV-1000 I found a small stash of Casio PV-1000 and PV-2000 game cartridges on Mercari a bit ago. The PV-1000 is a game console, and the PV-2000 is a computer (at least, in the same sense that the SG-1000 was a console and the SC-3000 was a computer). The PV-2000s I see are usually in terrible shape and cost a ton of money, while the PV-1000s also tend to cost a ton of money but aren't necessarily in such rough shape. I found a PV-1000 that was in somewhat rough shape but not too bad, and it ended for a comparatively reasonable price, so I stuck the winning bid on that. I was excitedly waiting for the PV-1000 so I could play with this hot stash of games. continued ⇒ |

2023-11-08 - FM Towns Marty Color Variation This is the second Marty article in this blog. I already blogged at greater length in the other article, but this is the Marty I prefer. The color is that of the earlier dark gray FM Towns systems. And the lighter gray one has a more modern design sense to it, and also the origin of the more modern style controller. continued ⇒ |

2023-10-07 - Toshiba TVG-610 Somehow, Yahoo Auctions thought I might want the Toshiba TVG-610. Generally I limit my searches to computers, but that includes MSX, and sometimes looking at MSX stuff brings up Famicom results, which if you click on them may start to affect your results and return game stuff. Anyway, this came up on my "based on your browsing history" list, and I didn't buy it on the spot, but I sure was impressed by the aesthetics. I did eventually buy it, just because it was so cool looking.

2023-08-06 - FM Towns Marty I'm not much of a console guy. Oh, sure, I have a Famicom, there are certain experiences you can only get on a Famicom, and it's the Japanese counterpart to a big part of my childhood nostalgia -- the NES -- so yes, I have a Famicom, but I'm otherwise not big on consoles. Oh and a PC Engine because it's so small. So small until you put it in the docking station with the CD-ROM drive. So I have that, too, but mostly I'm not into consoles. And there was that console from Toshiba that I'll write about soon, that looked so cool I had to get it, but as you can see I'm clearly not much of a console person. continued ⇒ |

2020-01-22 - Sega SG-1000 II There’s this guy that repeatedly posts wonderful items to Mercari at really low prices. For example, 4000 yen for a Commodore MAX Machine. Tape games for fairly uncommon systems at 500 yen each. The items are almost always snapped up in less than a minute. I always try to get in on this action, but it’s long gone before I have a chance. continued ⇒ |
