Somehow, Yahoo Auctions thought I might want the Toshiba TVG-610. Generally I limit my searches to computers, but that includes MSX, and sometimes looking at MSX stuff brings up Famicom results, which if you click on them may start to affect your results and return game stuff. Anyway, this came up on my "based on your browsing history" list, and I didn't buy it on the spot, but I sure was impressed by the aesthetics. I did eventually buy it, just because it was so cool looking.

It was somewhat more common than I expected, so I had my choice of several between the Yahoo and Mercari results. I went with this one because it came with the original boxes and manual (which always looks nice on the blog) and the optional gun attachment. Bang bang!

It did not, however, come with a power adapter. As I was busy anyway, it laid around unused while I ordered a power adapter with appropriate voltage, amperage, and polarity specifications. From AliExpress. So it was cheap, but it took forever to get here. But the machine was patient. However, when it arrived, the plug was too big! So I broke down and bought four big ol' honkin' D-size batteries. Fortunately the thing worked! It was probably very glad to see some use after potentially decades sitting in its box. Video output is over RF only, so I was surprised to see how clean it is.

The TVG-610 is not cartridge-based, it's a dedicated game system with only the contents of the on-board game chip available for play. It has a selection of play modes, though. There is standard 1-on-1 tennis, but there is also a single player mode, a doubles tennis mode, a soccer mode where you can control your bar both vertically and horizontally with the third and fourth controllers, and two shooting games for those with the gun attachment.
