Meetup #58 marked our first attempt at finding a new venue. The room was a little rough, even compared to our previous venue, but wasn't bad. The really harsh part was being on the 4th floor without an elevator. Without computer equipment, it's not so bad, but lugging monitors and systems upstairs, and worse, downstairs, leaves us hoping we can find something a bit more convenient.

But it was a good meetup nonetheless. Sean took his National JR-200 and Sega SC-3000, as well as the 9" PVM (not having a locker is pretty inconvenient, we now have to bring the monitor to and from each meetup). The JR-200 was nice and light, and the SC-3000 was in need of repair. Games were played on the JR-200, and the SC-3000 was indeed successfully repaired.

David B. brought in a Sony MSX2 machine in need of repair. David K. assisted in the analysis. Actually, upon opening the machine, it became pretty clear what the problem was. It seems the previous owner had a go at adding his own... shielding? insulation? (because you want to keep the ICs as warm as possible?) and removing that material allowed the machine to spring back to life. Two for two, this month!

Sven had his C64 Reloaded for troubleshooting. It would load up to the BASIC screen, and BASIC was functional, but loading games resulted in failure. Edoardo offered his expert advice, and Sean threw in a few non-expert suggestions, but it just wasn't cooperating. He also went to

Tom discussed the feasibility of combining two game controllers into one, in an effort to make playing a particular MSX game more manageable. He brought in three potential controllers to see which might be fit for the task.
