2023-08-12 - Hitachi C15-B01 This is another part-TV, part-monitor, but unlike most of this variety, this one is from Hitachi, not NEC. It's a lovely red color, but depending on the viewing angle, there are some obvious scuffs to the body. continued ⇒ |

2023-08-06 - FM Towns Marty I'm not much of a console guy. Oh, sure, I have a Famicom, there are certain experiences you can only get on a Famicom, and it's the Japanese counterpart to a big part of my childhood nostalgia -- the NES -- so yes, I have a Famicom, but I'm otherwise not big on consoles. Oh and a PC Engine because it's so small. So small until you put it in the docking station with the CD-ROM drive. So I have that, too, but mostly I'm not into consoles. And there was that console from Toshiba that I'll write about soon, that looked so cool I had to get it, but as you can see I'm clearly not much of a console person. continued ⇒ |

2023-06-28 - Sanyo PHC-25 I bought this system with a library of boring utilities on Mercari back in December of last year. It was pretty pricey so I was watching it drop in price... very... slowly. As were many other people. Finally another PHC-25 appears on Yahoo Auctions so I monitored that auction, and toward the end it had risen to nearly the same price as the one on Mercari, but without the tapes, so I decided to buy it from Mercari. continued ⇒ |

2022-12-17 - PCG for MZ-700 You may recall that I was explaining that I would likely never get a PCG for the MZ-700. They tend to fetch considerable premiums whenever they surface on Yahoo Auctions. 2022-12-15 - TNT Bomb Bomb for MZ-1500 This game – TNT Bomb Bomb – showed up on Yahoo Auctions and it looked unique and it’s for the MZ-1500, which I don’t have a whole lot of games for to begin with, so I decided to try bidding on it. As it’s a rare game for a not terribly common system, and the game was unopened and in stellar condition, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be interested in coughing up the yen necessary to be the winner, but all things considered, it ended at a pretty reasonable price. continued ⇒ |

2022-09-09 - Kanji ROM Card, Mouse, etc. This must be my fourth or fifth SMC-777C by now. I don't keep duplicates at the moment, so I sell the machines back, but I often pick up accessories this way to expand my collection. This lot was a particularly good one; I got some games, an official SMC-777 mouse, and a kanji ROM card! It also came with a complete set of manuals and software, some of them in better condition than my own, so I did a bit of swapping out to improve my own collection. continued ⇒ |

2022-08-19 - Sharp CZ-800D I've seen these red Sharp monitors around for a while and they're usually pretty pricey. They were produced for the X1 line and come in a cherry red and a wine red. I had imagined I would prefer the cherry red, but that's neither here nor there; they're both typically quite expensive. continued ⇒ |

2022-08-07 - Boxed SMC-777C I had a temporary visitor, an SMC-777C with original box and a handful of original disks. The disks included were the default system disks and a couple of games: SMC Super Golf and Salad no Kuni no Tomato Hime (Princess Tomato of the Salad Kingdom). 2022-06-24 - Casio FP-1100 Now here’s a strange beast. With an unwieldly large keyboard and a really unexpected function of BASIC, this is certainly a unique machine. A friend of mine mentioned looking for games for it but they were terribly expensive, so you know that always catches my ear. Oddly, despite being a fairly rare machine, I found two auctions for them ending two days in a row. The first one was boxed with manuals and looked amazing, but it went for about 60000 yen. continued ⇒ |
