I found this kind of strange tape called Aoi Uchu no Boken (Adventure in Blue Outer-space) on Mercari. I saw some screenshots of it in via Google Images and thought it was pretty interesting looking. I decided to buy it. When it arrived, I noticed that it used to have two labels, but one was removed and placed directly on the tape case. Both labels have, in very hard-to-make-out writing, "SAMPLE" printed on them. The exposed side had a plain white label that said "DEMO MSX". 2023年09月18日 - NEW VIP・FM-7
As my job is basically creating makeshift databases and reporting on them via PHP and JavaScript, I was kind of amused at how much more easily I could do my job if the whole office would just upgrade to FM-7s and deal with the limitations of this early-80s database software. It's very much like my job but using notepad instead of mysql, and using notepad instead of a browser. But it was fun to poke around on for a bit! 続き⇒
2023年09月18日 - デモテープv3.0・X1
I am not actually sure what this is! It says "demo tape" but I don't believe it was shipped with any of the systems. The system tapes are black with black or blue and silver labels, but this is a white cassette with an orange-red label. My best guess is perhaps this was used by stores to display an endless loop demonstrating some of the X1 capabilities. I could imagine spending hours gazing at the various machines running their demos at a big Yodobashi Camera or the like. Anyway, here is some of the content. 続き⇒
After finally getting an X1 tape drive, I can now play Laser Planet! I bought it a few months ago on Mercari even though I couldn’t immediately use it, because it was a good deal. 続き⇒

2019年11月01日 - HuCAL・MZ-700
I picked up this MZ-700 application. I enjoy poking around with them, just to see what productivity was really like back then. The most productivity I can recall doing back in my childhood was using Magic Desk I on the Commodore 128. It was basically a typewriter emulator, so doing more sophisticated things like this spreadsheet application is a pretty new experience for me. 続き⇒

This final branch of the demo disk is probably the most interesting to me. I love games, but I’m also really interested in 8-bit productivity applications. This highlights some of the productivity apps available for this system. 続き⇒
As alluded to in the third article in this series, the machine has a 3-voice FM synthesizer (in addition to a 3-voice PSG synthesizer, for a max of six voices at once). I believe you could squeeze the full functionality of this by simply using the PLAY command in BASIC, but I am sure musicians would generally prefer a music composition software package with a GUI that is more intuitive and visual.
