The J3100 version of Shanghai is the same game, in theory, as the FM Towns version. It makes sense, they're similar era computers with similar computing power. It is unique and appealing to see it on the plasma screen, so the difference in terms of graphics can be a matter of opinion, but the game sounds so empty without background music or high-fidelity sound effects.



And they did indeed put in some effort in the graphics department, many tiles had animations when you match them and remove them from the board. I can't say I understand what it *is*, but you can see an example in the below image, 2nd row from the top, second tile from the right, and it's matching piece in the same column of the second row from the bottom.



Additionally, I believe it was missing the special play modes that the FM Towns version had.
