2019年08月09日 - PC-TV455とCZ-600Dでビデオ出力の比較 First, let me preface this by saying it’s not a tremendously scientific experiment. Although I made sure my major camera settings didn’t change, there are a lot of factors on the monitors themselves that I’m not sure how to control or don’t have the ability to compensate for, and some results I can’t interpret in terms of what is causing what I see as differences and shortcomings. 2019年08月06日 - 初めての3インチフロッピー - ゼビウス・X1 This is probably the most interesting game from a media perspective. It’s Xevious for my Sharp X1 D, which means it’s one of those newfangled 3″disks. I’d never seen one before. It’s kind of interesting. Thicker than a 3.5″ disk, and with the shutter mechanism on the inside of the case, rather than the typical sliding shutter we see on 3.5" disks. Not exactly sure of its capacity at the moment. 続き⇒ |

2019年07月31日 - COMMODOREマックスマシーン When I think about my Japanese vintage computer collection, I tend to think of the FM-77 (which I no longer have) as my first system, and the Sony HB-F1XD as the one I’ve had longest. But neither of those are true. My first computer in this collection is the MAX Machine. It doesn’t come to mind first because I tend to group Commodore separately. And admittedly it doesn’t get used much, because it does nothing that my Commodore 128 can’t do. But it’s still an interesting piece of computing history! 続き⇒ |

2019年07月28日 - シャープX１シリーズのシステムソフト These are the disks included with my system, the Sharp X1 Turbo Z, and the Sharp X1 Turbo, which I don’t have but picked up anyway. It’s all compatible with the X1 Turbo Z, anyway. 続き⇒ |

2019年07月27日 - シャープCZ-600DB I saw an auction for a (nother) Sharp X1 Turbo Z and this monitor – a Sharp CZ-600DB. Usually this stuff goes on Yahoo Auctions with the standard auction format, and it gets bid way expensive and finishes arbitrarily high. But I happened to catch this one with a fixed price – first to buy it gets it. The price was very reasonable for these items. The catch? It was untested. It was a toss of the dice that I couldn’t pass up. 続き⇒ |

2019年07月26日 - タウンズOS・FM TOWNS I received a large bundle of CD images for use with my FM Towns from my friend while I was visiting the US. I burned an image of Towns OS 2.1 L51, which may be the most recent version compatible with my system. This gave me the opportunity to try out Towns OS more in-depth than I’d been able to before. Not having a hard drive is kind of limiting, but there is still much to do with it. 続き⇒ |

2019年07月21日 - ROM/RAMカートリッジ・PC-6001 One cool and useful item that came with my NEC PC-6001 is this RAM/ROM expansion cartridge. It plugs into the side of the 6001 and doubles the memory to 32KB, and it also has two LIF (low insertion force) sockets for ROM expansion. 続き⇒ |

When you figure PCs are designed to be replaced every two to ten years, it’s no surprise that these 25-40 year old machines start developing issues. 2019年07月19日 - FM-77のシステムソフト My FM-77AV20EX comes with BASIC built onto a system ROM, which makes it fast to load up BASIC and play around, and you don’t need anything else to get started using the system. But the BASIC it comes with has a big limitation: you can’t access disks or perform operations on them. This means you can’t format a disk, and while most games that make use of a data disk or save disk include a format utility, I’ve run across at least one that does not.
