Despite reading the description, I didn't really know what I was getting myself into with this purchase. It's a never-opened (until now) Joy Joy Pack #3 for the MZ-1500. It contains two QuickDisks with two main games, Drol and Shooting Wars. It also came with a board game, but the board game is based on Drol, and relies on loading side B of the Drol QuickDisk. The software on side B acts as the dice and also produces in-game messages. continued ⇒
I recently purchased the game Tonky as part of a lot deal of X1 D games (about half were 3" floppy disks and the other half tapes). This is the most intriguing game to me, and it doesn't disappoint. This article is more about the physical aspect of the game. I have more detailed information about gameplay in the Tonky game introduction page. continued ⇒

Recently, Yahoo Auctions business account yugen2plus has been selling a bunch of purportedly never-opened, never-used PC games for a variety of systems, mostly X1 and PC-8801. A lot of them have been on the pricey side, but some are in the realm of reasonably priced. continued ⇒
2023-09-09 - MZ-1500 Games
I've been really fascinated with the MZ-1500 recently. Among the reasons is the QuickDisk drive. The QuickDisk medium was not very widely used in the home computer market, but I think it stakes an interesting and meaningful ground between tape and floppy disk. Like a tape, the medium is sequential in reading and writing, but the speed is more comparable to a floppy disk. The QuickDisk drive makes an ear-pleasing symphony of read/write sounds as it does its job. If you have a Famicom Disk System, you've surely already heard these sounds, as the FDS main unit is just a slightly modified QuickDisk drive, and their disks just slightly modified QuickDisks. continued ⇒
This game – TNT Bomb Bomb – showed up on Yahoo Auctions and it looked unique and it’s for the MZ-1500, which I don’t have a whole lot of games for to begin with, so I decided to try bidding on it. As it’s a rare game for a not terribly common system, and the game was unopened and in stellar condition, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be interested in coughing up the yen necessary to be the winner, but all things considered, it ended at a pretty reasonable price. continued ⇒
Some of the hardest things to find are Sharp X1 D disks. If you’re not familiar, the X1 D uses 3″ disks, as opposed to 3.5″ disks. Physically quite different and totally incompatible. Even as blanks they’re rare and usually expensive. I found these on Mercari, and even after talking the guy down 25%, I still wouldn’t say I got a great deal on these or anything, but there were many (a lot of 19) and I hope to get most of my money back by selling my duplicates and some blanks. continued ⇒
2021-03-15 - Pasopia Goodies
There was a small bundle of items related to Toshiba Pasopia on Mercari for a while. The price would go down, then the seller would find some more related items, so the price would go up, and then back down. Eventually it hit a pretty sweet spot and the guy agreed to a small discount, so I bought it. continued ⇒
This is probably the most interesting game from a media perspective. It’s Xevious for my Sharp X1 D, which means it’s one of those newfangled 3″disks. I’d never seen one before. It’s kind of interesting. Thicker than a 3.5″ disk, and with the shutter mechanism on the inside of the case, rather than the typical sliding shutter we see on 3.5" disks. Not exactly sure of its capacity at the moment. continued ⇒
