My heart won't listen to my brain's rules, so now I have a PC-8001mkIISR. I had originally decided that I don't need this machine because I have a PC-8001 already. Sure, the mkIISR is fancier and more featureful, but it's bigger and it starts to encroach on some of the PC-8801FH's territory.

I had been noticing them sell for 50-70000 yen in recent history, so I didn't expect I could get this reasonable deal on a boxed unit that had some amount of maintenance performed on it and in such good condition. I can't say it was cheap but it's probably the best value for price that I've seen in a while.

The box has probably seen better days, but it's not in bad shape at all for its age!

I think it was a complete system. It came with two manuals that were still in great shape, a few other documents, a power cable and CMT/data recorder cable, and a system demo tape.

As one might expect of a machine that had been maintained and sold as working, it powered right on and gave me no difficulties. The SR stands for... umm, actually I don't know. But it means that it has FM sound built-in, which was a big upgrade from the PC-8001, and a substantial upgrade from the PC-8001mkII, as well. If there's one thing I can't do, it's make music, so this "original composition" (that is to say, mostly I pressed random keys between A and G) isn't going to be on the charts anytime soon, but it's a fun way to sample a couple of the instruments.

There are not too many games specifically for this system, but there are more than there are for the PC-6001mkIISR and PC-6601SR, so I will have a play at some of them in the near future.
