I sure do hate testing baseball games, and it wasn't my intention to write about one, but 3D Baseball for Pyuta gets an exception. Not because it's fun, but because there aren't many 3D games on the Pyuta, and this is one that I had in my possession at one point.

While it's not fun, it is a bit unique. At first it didn't strike me, how is this 3D? I mean yeah, you have a sort of isometric-ish perspective thing going on, but most baseball games did. As I played a bit, I noticed a couple of things. One, the ball gets bigger as it rises up in the air, and it has a shadow that follows the path of the ball. I don't know that it's the only baseball game to do that, but there aren't many from that era.

Further, after I thought about it for a bit, the perspective rotates 180 degrees depending on where the action is. When the pitcher and batter are doing their thing, the view centers near the pitcher, and the batter is at the top of the screen. When the ball is hit, the view swings around and gives you a fuller view so the outfielders can be navigated toward the ball. You also get a view of the crowd and the scoreboard. This, I'm pretty sure, is the only game around this time to exhibit this behavior. I don't know the inner-workings of the game, so I am not sure if the 3D add-on helps with or not, but I can imagine scenarios where it indeed would. And it seems likely that it would, as it requires the 3D adaptor.

Here is the cartridge, bearing the 3D logo.
