Japanese Vintage Computer Collection

その他のシャープの機種MZ-1500のゲームソフト

There were three software packages in the Joy Joy Pack series. For a brief period, I had all three. They're a neat-looking collection.

This is the first Joy Joy Pack. It's a nicely presented, although cheaply packaged, collection of six QuickDisks containing utilities, study material, and a single QuickDisk with two games.

The Entertainer allows you to make your own music (I believe it was limited to three voices of the MZ-1500's maximum six, although I didn't try very hard because I'm no composer!). Party Maker allows you to enhance the atmosphere for a special occasion.

Home Diary lets you load up your schedule. I was a big-time computer enthusiast, but even back in the day, I could never imagine scheduling on a computer that you have to take the time to boot up, load the scheduler, and then load your data. Way simpler to just put pen to paper and plan your life that way. Kankankan (roughly meaning "simple kanji", though this is not a real word) is a low-feature word processor, but it does have software support for kanji, which is pretty useful for its time. Even though the available kanji character set is far from complete, it breaks up all the kana and lets you make your documents more pleasing to the eye.

BASIC Study gives you a tutorial on some of the BASIC commands offered on the system.

And finally, on the game QuickDisk, on side A we have Mario Bros. Special, a great take on the original Mario Bros. arcade game classis, which is available for virtually every 8-bit Japanese computer. And on side B, we have Yakyu-kyo (maybe we can translate it as "baseball fanatic"), a vapid baseball game available for virtually every 8-bit Japanese computer (or at least the early ones).
