As far as system software and demos go, NEC is pretty solid. The system disks for the PC-8801mkIISR are no exception. There are two disks - N88 BASIC and Demonstration.

You typically need a version of disk BASIC in order to access floppy disks from a Japanese computer. Without it, you won't be able to, for example, format disks, or save your programs to disk, you would need to save to tape. So the BASIC disk is utilitarian, but NEC also adds a little bit more. In addition to disk BASIC and the disk management utility, there is also an electronic keyboard that allows you to harness the FM sound generation feature of the SR in a real-time environment. Additionally, there are a few demos of other software, including this demo of Logo turtle graphics.

And the demonstration can be divided into four parts, although they are played in a continuous loop. The first section is the opening screen plus four season multimedia display. They show an image from each season and a piece of classical music to accompany it.

The second part is a graphic generation tool, showing simple 3D models being spun around for viewing from every direction, followed by more complex models and finally a completed render of the 3D objects.

Every collection has a weak link, and this next part is definitely the PC-8801mkIISR's weak link. It's a very simple monochrome animation of a woman getting ready for her day and then being abducted by aliens. Well, it doesn't sound that bad now that I state it that way. I think something that kind of kills it is that the theme music from Sesame Street is playing the whole time, and while I have some nostalgic feelings for Sesame Street, combined with the simplistic animation just makes this whole portion feel cheap and childish. But here it is, anyway.

And finally we have the animated animal ensemble, starring Conductor Hippopotamus.
