I've been really fascinated with the MZ-1500 recently. Among the reasons is the QuickDisk drive. The QuickDisk medium was not very widely used in the home computer market, but I think it stakes an interesting and meaningful ground between tape and floppy disk. Like a tape, the medium is sequential in reading and writing, but the speed is more comparable to a floppy disk. The QuickDisk drive makes an ear-pleasing symphony of read/write sounds as it does its job. If you have a Famicom Disk System, you've surely already heard these sounds, as the FDS main unit is just a slightly modified QuickDisk drive, and their disks just slightly modified QuickDisks.

I picked up a series of MZ-1500 games by Dempa Micomsoft a while ago. Some classics you likely already know, and a couple of lesser-known titles as well.

First up is Burnin' Rubber. I'd never heard of it, but apparently it got an arcade release. It's a racing game with a twist - your car can jump over obstacles, other cars, and gaps in the road.

Next is Galaga, the arcade classic. This is a good, no-frills port, offering an authentic arcade experience.

The third game is Tower of Druaga. You may remember this as a NES title, though I never personally played it.

And then we have Gate of Labyrinth. Wow! This is an honest-to-God RPG! It's the only one I am aware of on the MZ-700 -or- MZ-1500.

Rounding off the recent additions is The Demon Crystal. Plenty of stuff to keep me busy in that theoretical free time I have to play around!
